Living Leviticus and Evangelism
Steps to Find the Book of Leviticus:
- Grab your most used Bible and lay it flat so you can see the pages. (The spine should be facing away from you.)
- Looking at the edge of the pages, look for the cleanest section. (Chances are the last section of the Bible and a few pages in the front are the cleanest. The last clean section will be the book of Revelation and the beginning section will be the book of Leviticus.)
- Open to the book of Leviticus and begin peeling the pages apart.
Most often, the book of Leviticus is avoided because we are so far removed from the cultural significance of sacrifices, cleansings and even the thoughts of being a nomadic tribe. Since Leviticus falls in the Old Testament, many Christians pass it by as the priest and Levite passed by the injured man in Luke 10. Since the rules and regulations have been done away with, Leviticus has found its way on the dust pile of old thoughts which are obsolete in the New Testament Christianity.
However, I would not be hesitant to assure you the regulations and responsibilities of Leviticus are for our understanding that we may appreciate the sacrifice of Christ even more in our lives. The message of Leviticus is quite clear,
“You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.” (Leviticus 19.2, ESV)
The sermons in the month of March will be on the significance of Leviticus in the lives of Christians. I believe understanding the book of Leviticus will cause our spiritual growth to increase because we begin to dive into the history of God allowing people to be holy before Him. Stay tuned for more during the month of March.
The Leviticus Introduction
The sermon below was delivered on Sunday regarding an introduction to Leviticus. The outline is not in depth, but does provide an interesting look at some beginning material for the study. As a presentation, I spent some time going over the basic background for Leviticus before spending some time on the purpose of Leviticus – to create holiness – and the New Testament applications of being separate and holy.

Afternoon Bible Class:
I began a series of lessons in our afternoon Bible study regarding overcoming our fears of evangelism. The material in the slides entitled, “4 Reasons for Evangelism” are not my own. I had them in a class notebook from my studies at Freed-Hardeman University and I have heard them delivered by a variety of ministers. Take a moment and give the PowerPoint below a view.
Just some thoughts,
Chris
