Smart Like a Girl
Today’s Gallagher Adventure post (http://www.gallaghersonline.com) brought back an enjoyable memory of the mind of Alexis. Alexis was about three years old when she came sprinting into our the living room of our West Virginia home and exclaimed she had a paper cut on her finger. So, it became daddy to the rescue time!
As I was putting a band-aid on her finger, I cut off the ends of the band-aid so they would not wrapped around her finger and touch the cut. When I cut the band-aid, I cut too much off of the side. As I looked around for the extra pieces that I had just cut off I could not find them. I scoured the bathroom looking for those two small pieces. I even walked in the kitchen looking for them, I figured they spouted legs and walked off.
When I came back in the bathroom, Alexis was sitting there smiling and said, “Dad, the pieces of band-aid are on the door behind you.” Sure enough, there they were. I could not resist but say, “That is awesome; for a girl you are really smart.” I joked with her a little more about being smart for a girl, then I figured enough was enough so I quit.
I quit only to hear in the most sincere voice, my three year old daughter say, “Dad, one day you might go up to be smart as a girl too!”
With that phrase, laughter rang throughout our house!
Just a memory,
Chris
