Jesus: He is Our Savior
“Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:2, NKJV)
Everyday I open my eyes I am thankful.
Every time I rise to see the sun shining and spreading it’s light on this Earth, I am thankful.
When my daughters and son call me dad, I am thankful.
When I see my wife, I am thankful.
As I open the Bible to read about what great things have been done for me by Jesus, I am extremely thankful. If there are words to describe a feeling that is beyond thankfulness, I feel them. The reason for my thankfulness and joy is Christ – He is my Savior.
Not only is Jesus my Savior, but He is the Savior to all of those who obey His Words. To Christians, He is our Savior. The words of Christ will judge us in the last day (John 12:48). Jesus said that, “heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away” (Matthew 24:35). Since the words of Christ will judge us and will never pass away, we need to obey them. The words of Christ that we have were written that we might believe (John 20:30-31).
At the Transfiguration on the Mount a voice came out of the cloud and said, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!” (Matthew 17:5, emphasis mine–CMG) Why do you think that the voice of God told Peter, James, and John to listen to Christ? God wants us to listen to His Son because His Son has the words of eternal life (John 6:68). Christ came to this earth to seek and save those that are lost (Luke 19:10). His words are the words that we must heed, follow and obey to achieve a home with Him forever.
Without following the words of Christ, where would we be?
Without Christ, where would we be?
The answer is simple – lost.
We would be lost without Christ. We would still be dead in our sins; a dead men walking. Because of Christ, we have been made alive.
“And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins” (Ephesians 2:1).
We became alive through the waters of baptism (Romans 6:4). We have arisen to walk in newness of life. Our old man was crucified with Him (Romans 6:6). We become crucified with Christ, because he is our Savior. When we become crucified with Christ, Christ lives in us (Galatians 2:20).
Christ lives in us because we are committed to Him. Christ has given us an example to follow.
“For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow in His steps” (1 Peter 3:21).
The example that our Savior left was one of commitment. Our Savior was committed to His Father. As the day of His crucifixion drew near our Savior pleaded, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me…” (Matthew 26:39). Jesus did not want to face the painful experience of death. He knew the punishment, the scourging, the mocking, and the pain that was involved. Even though He did not want to face the cross, He submitted to the will of His Father when He said, “Not as I will, but as You will” (Matthew 26:39). Jesus spent His life growing up in the “shadow of the cross.” I imagine Jesus grew up knowing passages such as Isaiah 53. He lived in a time where crucifixions were common capital punishment and I imagine Jesus, at least once, walked past a man being crucified. What did He think? Did He grimace in pain, as He would look up to a place that He knew He would be? We do not know. What we do know is that Christ suffered the cross for us!
Christ was an innocent man; even Pilate knew it (Matthew 27:18, 23-24). Christ never sinned while He walked this Earth.
“For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet, without sin” (Hebrews 4:15)
Christ never sinned! Never! That is what makes him the perfect sacrifice. He was pure, holy, the only Son of God (John 3:16).
Jesus is our Savior because He is the only way to the Father.
“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6, emphasis mine– CMG)
One must come through Christ to get to the Father. Why? The reason you must come through Christ is that He is the Mediator of the new covenant (Hebrews 9:15). One must clothe himself in Christ through baptism (Galatians 3:27). We must be clothed in the Savior to be able to see the Father. Because in Christ we have redemption through His blood (Ephesians 2:7). In Christ we have obtained a better inheritance (Ephesians 2:11).
Our Savior gave us so many blessings (Ephesians 1:3). Should we not want to take these great things that our Savior has done for us and proclaim them. We need to tell others the great things the Lord has done (Mark 5:19). We need to tell others of our Saviors love for them. Proclaiming the great deeds of our Savior is the best message one could ever proclaim. Let us proclaim it together!
Just some thoughts at 11:35 pm on a Tuesday night!
