The Power of Respect – A Must Read!

Respect Cover Before I begin this review, I need to note that I am a member of the Thomas Nelson Bloggers Review team and this book was provided to me at no-cost to read and review.

I believe Sean Hannity said it best when describing this book he said, “READ THIS BOOK!” In her newest book, The Power of Respect, Deborah Norville takes you through a powerful examination on the need and benefits of respect. Mrs. Norville subtitled her book, “Benefit from the Most Forgotten Element of Success,” and the subtitle surely reflects the content of this work. The book is not only filled with stories and statistics of respect, but it is filled with reminders of how to become a person of respect and better your life in the process.

This book took me longer than usual to read because the information is so valuable. Usually, reading a book involves reading the story and delighting in the imaginary moments of what the writer is portraying, but not in The Power of Respect. The content of The Power of Respect is drawn from many angles: from school, to family, to your business to growing yourself. Each area is vital to living a life found in the The Power of Respect.

As a minister, teacher and speaker, I believe this book is a must read to those to are assisting others in creating a better life. If you are seeking to assist others in living a better life, they need to know the principles and power of respect in every aspect of life. As can been seen in a quote by Confucius found in the book (page 15) says, “Without feelings of respect, what is there to distinguish men from beasts?”

Mrs. Norville begins the book discussing the “Most Forgotten Element of Success,” then moves to a the chapter that every parent must read, “It All Starts At Home.” The Power of Respect hits the nail on the head with bringing the foundations of respect back to the home. Parents, you need to read this chapter (even if your children are excellent.)

One of the most fascinating parts of the book was the description of the Positive Behavorial Interventions and Supports (PBIS). (Page 95 of “The Power of Respect”) The reason for my fascination of PBIS is because my daughters’ school uses a version of the PBIS to encourage their student to achieve their best and reach their potential. This really brought home the effects of using PBIS in the lives of other people; even people across the nation. I have seen it work in the school system here and reading Mrs. Norville’s words regarding other school implementing PBIS, I was intrigued and excited.

I enjoyed this book so much, I am planning on reading her previous book, “Thank You Power: Making the Science of Gratitude Work for You.”

If you are a teacher, minister, speaker, or someone wanting to grow, this book should be in your library! (You can help support the Preacher’s Pen by purchasing the book below.)

Just my thoughts,

Chris
