Stop Doing Church

How many of you reading this are simply “doing church?” You are showing up every week to a building in hopes of filling a checklist of religious activities so Peter will let you in when you get to the Pearly Gates. Well, it does not happen like that, simply filling a checklist of religious activities will not work, just as the Pharisees. Remember these words,

“This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.”(Mathew 15.8-9, ESV)

There is a big difference between “DOING church” and “BEING the church!” It is time Christians got back to the work they love, the work of the Gospel. Yes, it does take work. Believing in Jesus takes work, repentance takes work, living in the light of Christ takes work. Work is necessary, just ask James. (James 2.14-26).

Below is a series of lessons and information to assist you in being the church. You may use and download these resources to use in your personal life or your teaching others to begin to be the church.

Stop Doing Church Sermons:

This series of lessons was presented to the congregation where I am located and I challenged them each week to begin being the church. Simply “doing church” will destroy our lives if we do not begin “being the church” now. All the lessons are available for viewing and downloading, please use them.

Stop Doing Church Articles:

The article were written to encourage people to change their thinking and change their attitude regarding church. These article supplement the lessons well. I have included the PDFs and blog posts of the articles that you may download. Feel free to use this material to begin being the church.

Stop Doing Church Resources:

The resources below are provided in Microsoft Publisher 2007 and PDF format. You may download each of the resources and use them as your own. I was able to provide copies of each of the resources for our members to use in their working in “being” the church.

Postcards

Business Invite Cards

  • These cards were designed to be given to each member with the congregations information contained on each card. These cards are the size of a business card and can fit in a wallet or purse. They are extremely useful when left at a restaurant after paying and leaving a tip, given to a neighbor, included when paying a local bill, etc.
  • The link below is for the cards I used for our congregation. You may download the template and change the information for your congregation.
