Bible Study Series 2023 – Acts 2 – Day #2

Bible Study Series 2023 – Acts 2 – Day #2

In Day #2 of our study for the week of March 20 – 24, 2023, we dive deep into the background of Acts by discussing the crowd and the day of Pentecost.

Acts 2 is a chapter in the Bible which blends Old Testament Prophecy with New Testament meaning. It is in this chapter that Peter (along with the 11) change the course of people’s lives by showing them the power of God.

In this brief study series, we search the text of Acts 2 to see what this scripture meant to the hearers on the Day of Pentecost, and then how their lives were transformed by the message Peter spoke. .

The Key of Me

The Key of Me

Prayer is a powerful aspect of a follower of Jesus because it is the communication avenue with the Father. The spiritual armor of a Christian includes prayer. (Ephesians 6.18) Paul, in describing the full armor of God, tells us to pray at all times.

While we know about prayer, and we even recognize the need for daily prayer, for what are we praying? As our words leave our minds to reach God’s ears, what are we asking God to do? Or what words are we saying?

Patrick Morley took time to consider what he was praying. In examination of his words, he compared his prayer with the Model Prayer of Matthew 6.9-13. As he concluded his examination, he said, “I realized most of my prayers were prayed in the key of me. So I started praying all my prayers in the key of we. It is amazing how our prayers take flight when they soar on wings that include them.” (The Christian Man, Patrick Morley, 2019, page 103)

If you were to examine your prayer life, would you pray in the key of “me” or the key of “we?” When you take a moment and examine the Model Prayer of Matthew 6, what do you see? A quick examination of the words of Mathew 6.9-13 show the words, “our,” “us,” and “we.”

Even the prayer of Jesus as He was about to face crucifixion found His words focused on others. The words recorded in John 17 show the purpose of Jesus as He seeks to glorify God through His life, then He prays for the people around Him.

While there is nothing wrong with asking God to be with us, or sharing our wants and needs with the Father, are we praying for others as well?

Just some thoughts,

Bible Study Series 2023 – 2 Peter 1 – Day #5

Bible Study Series 2023 – 2 Peter 1 – Day #5

In Day #5 of our study on 2 Peter 1, we discuss how the words Peter gives his readers did not come by the way of his interpretation, but from God.

Peter’s words are not to be taken lightly, but respectfully. While he is reminding his readers of their salvation, he desires they know where each word came from.

Knowing that the Almighty God gave words to man, ensures that we are hearing the words of God.

Bible Study Series 2023 – 2 Peter 1 – Day #4

Today is Day #4 of our study into 2 Peter 1.

The apostle Peter is encouraging them to grow. He wants them to add to the faith, then to continue to grow so they will never be unfruitful in their life. Just as Peter reminds his readers, those reminders are also to us. May we grow stronger in our faith and actions as we live.

Bible Study Series 2023 – 2 Peter 1 – Day #3

Today is Day #23 of our study into 2 Peter 1.

2 Peter is a letter to the early church reminding them of their growth and their blessings.

In Day #3, we will examine what Peter says about adding, or supplementing, to your faith. Peter knows about spiritual growth as he grew when he was walking with Jesus.

Now, through inspiration, he shares the words about what to add to your faith so his readers can grow. Just as Peter reminds his readers, those reminders are also to us. May we grow stronger in our faith and actions as we live.
