31 Days with Jesus
Have you ever skimmed through the long lists of names in Matthew 1 or Luke 3 and wondered why they matter? The genealogy of Jesus is more than a record of ancestry—it’s a testimony of God’s faithfulness across generations. Every name tells a story, and together, they reveal a God who keeps His promises, no matter how messy or unexpected the journey gets.

Matthew 1:1-17 and Luke 3:23-38 introduce us to a tapestry of people—some faithful, some flawed, all woven into the story of redemption. From Abraham’s obedience to David’s courage and Rahab’s unexpected place in the lineage, we see that God uses ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things. Even in seasons of failure, exile, or doubt, God’s promise never falters. He brings hope out of brokenness and fulfillment out of waiting.

Jesus’ family tree reminds us that no one is disqualified from God’s plan. If God can use people with complicated pasts to bring about the birth of the Savior, He can certainly use us. Our own stories, with all their twists and turns, can be part of something greater when we trust Him.

As you reflect on the genealogy of Jesus, take heart: God’s faithfulness didn’t stop with Abraham or David—it continues in you. Your life matters in His unfolding story. When you feel insignificant or too far gone, remember that God specializes in bringing purpose out of the unexpected.

Four Points to Remember:
  • Jesus’ genealogy shows God’s faithfulness through every generation, no matter the circumstances.
  • God uses imperfect people to accomplish His perfect plan.
  • Your story, no matter how messy, can be used by God for something greater.
  • Trust that God’s promises remain true—even when the journey takes unexpected turns.
