31 Days with Jesus
John 2:13-22 tells the story of Jesus entering the temple in Jerusalem and finding it filled with merchants and money changers. Instead of a place of prayer and worship, the temple had become crowded with distractions and business. With righteous passion, Jesus overturned the tables and drove out those who were misusing God’s house, declaring, “Take these things away; do not make my Father’s house a house of trade!”

This bold action wasn’t about anger for its own sake. Jesus was calling people back to the heart of worship—a relationship with God that isn’t cluttered with distractions or self-interest. He longed for the temple to be a place where people could encounter God’s presence, pray, and grow in faith.

We all have “temples” in our lives—places in our hearts and routines meant for God, but sometimes crowded with worries, busyness, or misplaced priorities. Jesus’ cleansing of the temple invites us to examine what needs to be cleared out so we can experience deeper, truer worship. It’s not always easy to let go of what’s familiar, but making space for God always leads to greater peace and purpose.

When we allow Jesus to cleanse our hearts, we rediscover the joy and freedom of being close to Him. True worship isn’t about rituals or routines—it’s about loving God with our whole selves and making Him the center of our lives.

As you reflect on this moment, ask Jesus to help you clear away whatever might be crowding your relationship with Him. Make room for His presence, and let your life become a place of true worship.

Four Points to Remember:
  • Jesus desires our lives to be places of genuine worship, not cluttered with distractions.
  • Sometimes we need to let go of routines or priorities that keep us from God.
  • True worship is about relationship, not ritual—loving God with our whole hearts.
  • Making room for God always leads to deeper peace, freedom, and purpose.
